Peter Obi Condemns Alleged Distribution of Luxury Vehicles for 2027 Campaign Mobilisation

Reports Claim Tinubu Government Distributed Hilux Trucks and Hummer Buses

Fresh controversy has emerged in Nigeria’s political scene following reports that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu allegedly distributed luxury vehicles — including Toyota Land Cruisers, Hilux trucks, and Hummer buses — to state coordinators of a new political mobilisation network ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the report published by an online newspaper, each coordinator allegedly received a brand-new vehicle as part of what sources described as early campaign groundwork.

The presentation reportedly took place on Monday, December 1, in Abuja under a newly formed political platform known as the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a nationwide mobilisation structure allegedly spearheaded and coordinated by the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.

Peter Obi Calls It “A Serious Moral Failure”

Reacting to the alleged development, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), strongly criticised the move.
He described the alleged distribution of luxurious vehicles during a period of economic hardship as “a serious moral failure” and an outright display of insensitivity to the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

According to Obi, millions of citizens are currently grappling with hunger, unemployment, rising inflation, and growing insecurity, conditions that demand responsible governance and prudent use of public resources.

“At a time when Nigerians are struggling with hunger, unemployment, and insecurity, the decision of any government to allocate limited public resources for distributing luxury vehicles as part of the 2027 campaign mobilisation is not only insensitive but also represents a serious moral failure,” Obi stated.

Renewed Hope Ambassadors: Inside the Alleged Mobilisation Structure

Sources claim the vehicles were handed over to state coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a group established to serve as Tinubu’s early 2027 election mobilisation network. The coordinators reportedly gathered in Abuja to receive not only the vehicles but also briefings on funding strategies and campaign rollout plans for the coming election cycle.

This alleged move has triggered political debate, raising questions about the use of public resources, transparency, and the prioritisation of governance over political ambitions.

Obi Accuses Tinubu Administration of Abuse of Trust

Peter Obi further criticised the Tinubu government, accusing it of violating the trust placed in it by citizens who expect effective leadership, improved security, and economic stability. He noted that while Nigerians face worsening insecurity, including kidnappings, violent attacks, and mass displacement across multiple regions, the alleged focus on early campaign logistics reflects misplaced priorities.

Growing Public Concern Over Governance Priorities

The reported distribution has sparked nationwide debate, especially at a time when citizens are calling for more accountability, reduced government spending, and urgent action to address Nigeria’s economic realities. Analysts and civic groups argue that if the reports are confirmed, such actions undermine public confidence in leadership and raise ethical concerns about governance and transparency as the 2027 elections approach.
