The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has arrested four suspects linked to kidnapping, attempted abduction, and fraud in a series of coordinated operations across the state.
Commander Chief Adetunji Adeleye briefed journalists in Akure, revealing that the arrests were made during multiple raids conducted within 48 hours under Operation Le Won Jade, backed by Border Patrol units and the ongoing 24/7 ember-month security watch.
Adeleye said the corps received a distress call about heavy gunfire in a forest, prompting the deployment of a rapid response team alongside local security personnel.
“On entering the forest, our men came under heavy attack,” he said.
“At the end of the operation, we successfully rescued four of the five kidnapped passengers, though the bus driver was shot dead when the attackers tried to stop the vehicle.”
The rescue mission lasted over three hours as operatives combed the dense forest.
Those rescued include three women and the bus conductor. One of the women, who sustained gunshot injuries, was stabilised at the Amotekun health facility.
Two suspected kidnappers believed to have fired at the officers and killed the bus driver were arrested on the spot.
In another incident, the security outfit thwarted an attempted abduction of a female correctional service officer.
The suspects had posed as visitors to inmates and lured her outside under the guise of helping her get to town.
She escaped after raising an alarm near the Amotekun outpost at Cathedral Junction, where operatives quickly intervened and apprehended the suspects.
Adeleye also paraded a suspect accused of defrauding his employer of ₦77.2 million, attempting to sell her property, and issuing death threats.
He noted that Amotekun, working with the military, police, DSS, civil defence, vigilantes and local hunters, has intensified regional security operations across the Southwest.
The Commander assured residents that major routes, public spaces and vulnerable communities are receiving reinforced surveillance to ensure a safe, crime-free environment throughout the ember months.
